ScotlandThirty ShillingsCharles I Falconer's anonymous issue, rough ground below horse, No F, no marks above crown, S.5557, mintmark Thistle, 15.02 grammes, VF or better, a flan flaw has caused an oval shaped hole just behind the King and correspondingly on the Scottish lion on the shield, the edge with an approximately 2mm square flaw between FRAN and HIB, the portrait and shield design attractive and eye-catching for this type
ScotlandPennyWilliam I (The Lion) Short Cross and Stars coinage, Phase B, Class II (1205-1230) No Mint name, Reverse: Four stars of six points, moneyers Hue and Walter, HVE WALTER OͶ, S.5029, 1.35 grammes, VF with a bold portrait, some weakness to the legend at 2 o'clock, and in the corresponding position on the reverse, overall a most attractive example and desirable thus

South AfricaPond 1895 KM#10.2 EF with a thin scratch in the obverse field, the obverse with some contact marks, nevertheless a sharp and attractive example, this series always desirable in the higher grades
IrelandShillingGunmoney 1689 Oct: S.6581E, Timmins TB12E-1F Good Fine/Fine, a little weak in parts around 7 and 8 o'clock and correspondingly so on the reverse

South AfricaPond 1892 Double Shaft KM#10.1 sharp Unc or near so very rare thus, small field depression beneath 1 POND perhaps in the striking and with a brownish tone
South AfricaHalf Pond 1893 KM#9.2 Extremely Rare in any grade, Good Fine the edge with some slight roughness at 10 and 2 o'clock too minor in our opinion to indicate an ex-jewellery piece
USAHalf Dollar 1795 Breen 4560, VF repaired to the left of the date, the lowest star missing (smoothed off) this would be entirely below the missing curl , the TE of STATES correspondingly showing damage, weight 13.41 grammes
South AfricaBurgers Pond 1874 Fine Beard KM#1.2 GVF with some small scratches on the obverse, very rare with the mintage believed to be just 695 pieces with few surviving, most of which are ex-jewellery, we note an example in a recent London Auction described as VF, and with a scratched X in the obverse field realised over £4000
South AfricaEen Pond 1902 Veld-Boer WarSiege Issue KM 11 reeded edge usual adjustment marks at places towards the rim VF, Only 986 pieces are believed to have been struck by PJ Kloppers at Pilgrim's Rest by hand. The issue crude as it is was based on the BritishSovereign, so befits a Sovereign collection as well as a South African Collection
South Africa Gold Kraal Pond ND(1900) no rim both sides. These coin blanks were prepared by the Republic during the Boer war and issued for circulation as a Sovereign or Pond without design, with some contact marks and some rim nicks
South Africa Gold Kraal Pond ND(1900) raised rim both sides. These coin blanks were prepared by the Republic during the Boer war and issued for circulation as a Sovereign or Pond without design
South AfricaBurgers Pond 1874 Fine Beard KM#1.2 NGC AU55, EF/GEF and extremely rare in this pleasing and high grade. This 1874 issue was South Africa's first circulating Pond (Pound or Sovereign) issue, engraved by Leonard Wyon the then Royal Mint engraver and struck by the Heaton Mint Birmingham. The coin was rejected by South African legislators who objected to the use of the portrait of Thomas Burgers the 2nd president of the Republic and the man entrusted with the design. The total issue of 695 were sold off as novelties with the vast majority becoming jewellery pieces, hence the extreme rarity of undamaged examples in this high grade. As well as South African collectors the coin fits well into any comprehensive Sovereign collection being the same weight and fineness, and in fact an example was sold in the recent Bentley Sovereign Collection at Baldwins which realised £38,000
South AfricaEen Pond 1902 Veld-Boer WarSiege Issue KM 11 reeded edge and with die "slash" (die fault or nick which shows in left field obverse) usual adjustment marks at places towards the rim and Good EF or better probably about as struck for this emergency issue and with some brilliance, rare thus, Only 986 pieces are believed to have been struck by PJ Kloppers at Pilgrim's Rest by hand. The issue crude as it is was based on the BritishSovereign, so befits a Sovereign collection as well as a South African Collection
