The note in brown on light brown and grey underprint and Uniface featuring a panel at left with a thistle motif in the Scotland Royal Arms along with the Great Britain Royal Coat of Arms at bottom and a seal featuring King William II seal on top with motto "DEO FAVENTE 1695", the Bank's Coat of Arms at upper centre flanked by black value panels above a grey medallion at lower centre. Scotland The National Bank of Scotland Limited Eight last issue 5 Pounds Pick 262a (PMS NA68, BY SC513) dated 1st November 1957 serial number A852-062 signatures Alexander S O Dandie titled Cashier & David Alexander titled General Manager. The note in green and multicolour with the obverse displaying the Bank's Coat of Arms at lower left with thistle plants above and the reverse features an illustration of the Forth Railway bridge near Edinburgh - considered as a symbol of Scotland and is recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. This is a note from the very last and very short-lived issue for the bank as the merger between the National and Commercial banks took place in 1959 resulting in all outstanding notes being withdrawn therefore it makes it scarce and seldom seen especially in this high grade. Printed by Waterlow & Sons Limited, London imprinted in small script at lower right on obverse and reverse and watermarked with a portrait of Sir Alexander Henderson - the Bank's first Chairman. The reverse in dark brown displaying the Bank's shield at centre with helmet and cornucopia above and flanked by 2 circular panels - Bank's Coat of Arms in the left and a sailing ship emblem at right, along with denomination in wording in panels at each corner. A very handsome and eye-catching design mainly in blue on multicolour underprint with the obverse featuring a portrait of Lord Cockburn one of the Bank's first Directors at upper right and Allegorical female bust at lower centre flanked by thistle plants and 2 Allegorical figures representing Agriculture and Maritime shipping. The reverse in blue featuring a large panel with the Bank's Coat of Arms with a seated Maritime Allegorical female figure on top and flanked by 2 Griffins and thistle plants. Printed by Bradbury, Wilkinson & Co. Ld. New Malden, Surrey, England imprinted in small script at lower centre obverse and watermarked with the same female bust as on obverse. A fresh and crisp GVF example of the very last issue for the bank before the merger with the National.
