World Banknotes : Lot 1619




1619 Scotland The National Bank of Scotland Limited 5 Pounds Pick 259c (PMS NA54, BY SC512c) dated 6th July 1942 serial number B 489-712 larger vertical format signatures A A Bremner for Chief Accountant and George Drever for Cashier. The note in blue on red and yellow underprint with the obverse featuring the Bank's Coat of Arms at centre, portrait of Henry Schomberg Kerr the 9th Marquess of Lothian to left, view of Edinburgh Castle at right. The reverse with an elaborate guilloche panel with an illustration of Edinburgh city view at centre flanked by numerical value. Printed by Waterlow & Sons Limited, London, England. Large sized wartime dated note with paper still retaining relative crispiness VF or near so with very faint Pencilled Annotation, for the redesigned signature format successor of this issue see next lot £70 - £140
