Five Guineas 1693 S.3422 Obverse conjoined busts of joint monarchs right. GVLIELMVS ET MARIA DEI GRATIA. Reverse, crowned garnished square topped arms, lion of Nassau in centre. Edge year QVINTO in raised letters on edge, in a PCGS holder and graded MS62, with Prooflike and brilliant fields, a piece with remarkable eye appeal, the bust and reverse design lightly frosted, retaining much mint lustre, must surely be one of the finest known examples of this short series. At the time of writing, the PCGS Population report shows one example graded MS62+ and another at MS63 being the only finer examples. Across the entire William and Mary series combining all Five Guinea dates and varieties, only 4 examples have been graded higher by PCGS. and in August 2020 an example dated 1692 and graded MS63 by PCGS realised $384,000 in Heritage, and is now being offered for private treaty sale at $499,000, and we can tell you that that the difference in grade between MS62 and 63 is negligible. William and Mary were spouses who reigned over the kingdoms of England, Scotland and Ireland. They began their joint reign in February 1689 after they were offered the throne by the Convention Parliament. James II (Mary’s father) had fled the country and William and Mary occupied what was in effect a vacant throne. They were the first joint rulers in England for over 800 years, although Philip II and Mary I had appeared on English coinage together. Mary was to reign until her death from smallpox in December 1694 and William continued his rule alone, until his death in March 1702. The reign of William and Mary was brief and their coins are relatively scarce.

Florin 1920 ESC 939, Bull 3765, Davies 1744 dies 2E, The obverse with the early George V head in higher relief. A superb example of the first year of the Half silver type, displaying much original colour and underlying mint lustre, very different in appearance the preceding Bright Finish coins, as various experiments were made with the non-silver part of the alloy from 1920-1922. Few coins with true original colour survive, a choice piece, in an LCGS holder and graded LCGS 82, the joint finest known of 15 examples thus far recorded by the LCGS Population Report. See also the choice 1921 Florin offered in this sale

Farthing 1848 Peck 1569 in an LCGS holder and graded LCGS 80, displaying glossy surfaces and considerable original mint lustre. Very seldom encountered in lustrous condition, this borne out by the LCGS Population statistics, which show this is the finest known of 6 examples thus far recorded, our auction archive stretching back to 2003 shows previously offered high grade examples of this date described as having traces of lustre or toned, therefore probably scarcer than catalogues would suggest in truly lustrous grade

It is interesting to note that PCGS have not graded any examples higher than MS64, also NGC records only 2 examples at MS65, so clearly an under-rated type.
Farthing 1881H LCGS Variety 6, as Cooke type B, the H is slightly nearer the first 8 than the second, the H well clear of the inner circle. Crown 1965 Satin Finish Specimen striking ESC 393O, Bull 4341, Davies 2301M. Excessively rare rated R5 by Bull and R6 by the 1992 ESC. This example in an NGC holder and graded SP67. The NGC Top Population coin, and the finest known example across three major grading companies. At the time of writing, our research has uncovered 11 examples graded by third party grading companies, some entries which may be duplicated. LCGS has graded 4 examples, in grades 82, 88 (2) and 90. PCGS has graded 3 examples, all SP65, and NGC has graded 4 examples SP62, SP64 (2) and this superb SP67 example. The fields display an even shimmering satin lustre, and displaying the die polish lines associated with this type under strong magnification, a key indicator of this excessively rare type. A wonderful example and would be a centrepiece coin in any advanced Crown collection. We note an example of this type sold in London Coins Auction A166 1/9/2019 described as 'nFDC with underlying brilliance' sold for £5500 hammer price
Sixpence 1939 VIP Proof/Proof of Record ESC 1829B, Bull 4226, Davies 2192P, in a PCGS holder and graded PR66CAM, the only example thus far graded on the PCGS Population report.
