Pennies (2) 1826 No Line on Saltire, Reverse A, Peck 1422 the obverse EF, the reverse very near so, 1858 8 over 2, this variety previously thought to be 8 over 3 with die cracks showing thinly through the bottom of all four digits of the date showing an earlier stage of the die break associated with this type. Research now shows this is more likely to be 8 over 2, indeed this example shows a small point to the lower left extreme of the 8. Recent research suggests that this die had only a short working life (Source: Michael Gouby, article Spink Numismatic Circular May 2010 pages 72-73). EF the obverse a little unevenly toned in the left field

We note an example described as Fair realised £1400 hammer price in our Auction A156 (5/3/2017 Lot 2509). This example is visually a superior coin with all legends clear. Probably rarer than the 1877 Narrow date coin, of which an LCGS Fine 20 example realised £7020 in our June 2010 auction
