04/12/2017 Auction 159	English Banknotes	Lot 1480	Five Shillings (Crown) Bank of England, Peppiatt B253, very scarce fractional war note never issued, these notes were prepared during WW2 as emergency issues because of a feared shortage of silver coins due to problems with the power supply at the royal mint, 8 million notes were printed and distributed to the clearing banks in 1941, the paper has no watermark but does have a security thread, the crisis at the Royal Mint passed and the notes were then not authorised for issue and were all supposedly destroyed, this note is one of a very few that survived and is therefore extremely scarce and an essential issue for any serious collector of British banknotes, some surface dirt, about VF	£2,300
