This succeeded in raising the value of the Dollar to 6 Shillings and Eight Pence. All of the new money, stamped or not also passed at this rate. Home authorities, on receiving copies of the local act, repealed it and the Governor of Jamaica was censured for exceeding his powers. Only £12,000 of coinage was countermarked and the project was abandoned in 1759.
