Five Pounds Lowther. B393. HA01 000005. This note was personally auctioned by the then Governor of the Bank of England, the late Lord George, at the beginning of a charity auction. Lord George acted as auctioneer for this one lot before Barnaby Full of Spinks took over. HA01 000001 to HA01 000004 were retained by the Bank of England. This note was the first ever auctioned by the Bank of England and henceforth the first note ever to be sold at auction above its face value by the bank. A brilliant, historically significant note. UNC.
