Collection of 3rd and 4th Century Roman Portraits

The following 38 lots cover the period from the beginning of the Severan dynasty to the end of the Constantinian, circa 200-350AD. The aim of the collection was to acquire attractive imperial portraits to fit 24mm coin trays, hence the choice of smaller types eg. during the tetrarchies. A number of rarities are headed by the antoniniani of Divus Nigrinian, a coin rarely offered, and Laelian, whose career spanned about six weeks.
