Sovereign Mary 1553 Fine Sovereign of 30 Shillings, dated in Roman numerals. Obverse: Mary enthroned, double annulet stops with single after ANG' Reverse: Shield on a rose, S.2488, North 1956, as Schneider 704, the reverse with abbreviation mark and a double annulet stop at the end of the legend, mintmark Pomegranate, 15.34 grammes, in a PCGS holder and graded Damage - AU detail, (PCGS certificate no. 37676209) struck on a full, slightly wavy flan the coin shows slight signs of mounting at the top of the obverse, barely visible in the holder, a tiny crack on the rim is evident between the I and N of REGINA. The workmanship of these large hammered coins shows an outstanding level of detail and intricacy. Being the flagship coin of the reign, all Mary Sovereigns were minted in .995 gold, the gold standard being restored to this traditional fineness in Mary's reign. Mary Sovereigns are rare and seldom offered, the last one we sold was in 2004, since then we have offered numerous Triple Unites and two 1839 Una and the LionFive Pounds

Shilling 1724 WCC Welsh Copper Company ESC 1182, Bull 1595 VG with an E countermark on the obverse and another, this illegible, on the Hanoverian shield. Very Rare. Halfcrown 1920 Davies 1672N struck in a hard nickel type alloy and weighing 11.92 gr. Trial Nickel Shillings of 1924 exist, with a very rare example struck metrically weighing 5 gr. The Davies 1672N Halfcrown listed here may also be a R.M. trial, when a complete elimination of silver seemed feasible. There appears to be an interesting 'privy' mark, introduced by a thicker downstroke to the 'D' of 'Dei' with the top and bottom serifs of this 'D' being double struck. The border bead above compensates for this downstroke by being oversized. This would be an odd occurrence for any counterfeiter, especially on top of striking perfectly die-cut, but lightweight coins in this hard metal, and having excellent milling. Halfcrown 1920 Davies 1672N struck in a hard nickel type alloy and weighing 12.43 grammes. There are 1924 trial nickel shillings, with a very rare example struck metrically weighing 5 gr. The 1672N Halfcrown listed here may also be a Royal Mint trial, when a complete elimination of silver seemed feasible. There appears to be an interesting 'privy' mark, introduced by a thicker down stroke to the 'D' of 'Dei' with the top serif of this 'D' being double struck. The border bead above is also oversized (wider). This would be an odd occurrence for any counterfeiter, especially on top of striking perfectly die-cut, but lightweight coins in this hard metal, and having excellent milling. a similar example was listed in Auction A151 6/12/2015 (Lot 2687, weight 11.92 grammes, realised £120 hammer price), the description then stating that only 6 of these examples were then known to the vendor Near Fine/VG a highly unusual type, in an LCGS holder and graded LCGS 15, Ex-Colin Adams collection

Shilling 1798 Pattern by John Milton Obverse GEORGIVS.III.DEI.GRATIA.REX very large head with short hair, laureate, 1798 below, Reverse large plain shield crowned with British and Hanoverian shield divided into six. Plain EdgeESC 1243, which lists as R5 Unc and toned. The designer John Milton (1759 - 1805) was employed by the Royal Mint in 1798 and worked along side Lewis Pingo.
