07/06/2020 Auction 169	World Banknotes	Lot 255	Scotland National Commercial Bank of Scotland Limited First issues (2) a very attractive pair both dated 16th September 1959 and signature D. Alexander comprising 5 Pounds Pick 266 (BY SC611; PMS NC2; Douglas 2-1;) very last prefix for this type G 110517, presentable VF with a very minor 2mm marginal tear to lower right margin. Along with 20 Pounds Pick 267 (PMS NC4; BY SC631; Douglas 3a-1) serial number A207793, Fine - VF with a 7mm uneven tear to right margin slightly extending to design but not affecting the note's general appearance and a Scarce short-lived issue with only 350.000 examples on record. Printed by Waterlow & Sons Limited and watermarked with Sir Alexander Henderson of Press , it had every note featuring an illustration of Forth Railway bridge until the final issue had a ship negotiating the wrong channel under the bridge, only corrected on the final £1 issue. 02/12/2019 Auction 167	World Banknotes	Lot 1621	Scotland The National Bank of Scotland Limited Eight last issue 5 Pounds Pick 262a (PMS NA68, BY SC513) dated 1st November 1957 serial number A852-062 signatures Alexander S O Dandie titled Cashier & David Alexander titled General Manager. The note in green and multicolour with the obverse displaying the Bank's Coat of Arms at lower left with thistle plants above and the reverse features an illustration of the Forth Railway bridge near Edinburgh - considered as a symbol of Scotland and is recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. This is a note from the very last and very short-lived issue for the bank as the merger between the National and Commercial banks took place in 1959 resulting in all outstanding notes being withdrawn therefore it makes it scarce and seldom seen especially in this high grade. Printed by Waterlow & Sons Limited, London imprinted in small script at lower right on obverse and reverse and watermarked with a portrait of Sir Alexander Henderson - the Bank's first Chairman.
