03/06/2019 Auction 165	World Banknotes	Lot 715	Northern Ireland Northern Bank Limited complete Fourth issue SPECIMEN set Torrens signature (6) comprising 5 Pounds dated 24th August 1990 serial number A0000000 red SPECIMEN overprint diagonally on obverse and reverse, blue and multicolour. 10 Pounds dated 24th August 1990 serial number B0000000 red SPECIMEN overprint diagonally on obverse and reverse, red and brown on multicolour underprint. 20 Pounds dated 24th August 1990 serial number C0000000 red SPECIMEN overprint diagonally on obverse and reverse, purple-brown, red and multicolour. 50 Pounds dated 1st November 1990 serial number D0000000 red SPECIMEN overprint diagonally on obverse and reverse, bluish green black and multicolour. 100 Pounds dated 1st November 1990 serial number E0000000 red SPECIMEN overprint diagonally on obverse and reverse, lilac black blue and multicolour. The takeover of Northern Bank by National Australia Bank on 30th October 1987 required a change of design to remove the Midland Bank motif therefore new designs were prepared and were printed and engraved by Thomas De La Rue & Co. London. The notes feature prominent men whose inventions in Northern Ireland contributed to the progress of various forms of transport. The new designs standarized the reverse of the notes with a dish antenna at left, a stylized N at centre and a computer at right. All about UNC - UNC. Scarce and seldom seen as a complete set. Ferguson at right and farm tractor at lower left. 50 Pounds Pick 208s (Blake-Callaway NR 131) serial number JB000000 violet on multicolour Sir Samuel Davidson at right and centrifugal machine at lower left. 100 Pounds Pick 209s (Blake-Callaway NR 132) serial number KB000000 Rose and blue on multicolour underprint Sir James Martin at right and Martin Baker ejection seat at lower left. All notes with red overprint SPECIMEN diagonally at centre on obverse and reverse and feature Belfast City Hall on reverse with buildings and architectural drawings in the underprint.
