06/06/2021 Auction 173	World Coins	Lot 1304	Egypt Gold Pound AH1401 (1981) Third Anniversary of the Re-Opening of the Suez Canal KM#525 Prooflike UNC with some light hairlines, a superb example with full mint lustre, the main features of the reverse design not frosted. Krause quotes a mintage of 150 Proof pieces only however our research has discovered that 4850 pieces were minted in total (including the 150 Proofs), of which 3407 were subsequently melted (1443 currency coins are still remaining) nevertheless a rare item and particularly desirable in this high grade, we note an example in an NGC holder graded MS65 recently being offered for $1500 (approximately £1083) on the internet, one of a number of high grade Egypt Gold Pounds offered in this sale	£550
