04/12/2022 Auction 179	English Coins	Lot 2042	Sovereign 1859 'Ansell' type, Marsh 42A, S.3852E, with the additional line on the ribbon behind the ear, Fine/Good Fine, the reverse cleaned with some deeper hairlines causing a depression in the field either side of the crown and shield, viewing recommended. One of the key rarities of the entire Sovereign series, rated R4 by Marsh, the rarity of this type fully justified, many advanced Sovereign collections are missing this extremely rare type.	£3,000
06/03/2022 Auction 176	English Coins	Lot 1989	Sovereign 1888 Obverse 1, G: of D:G: further from the crown S.3866, DISH L8. Good Fine/NVF, Extremely Rare. David Iverson's excellent reference book 'The Jubilee Head Gold Sovereign 1887-1893' estimates that 'a fraction of 1%' of the 1888 London output used this obverse die, and assigned a rarity of R5 to this type. (only 5-10 examples estimated to survive). We note that there was no example in the Bentley Collection.
