Halfcrown 1920 Davies 1672N struck in a hard nickel type alloy and weighing 11.92 gr. Trial Nickel Shillings of 1924 exist, with a very rare example struck metrically weighing 5 gr. The Davies 1672N Halfcrown listed here may also be a R.M. trial, when a complete elimination of silver seemed feasible. There appears to be an interesting 'privy' mark, introduced by a thicker downstroke to the 'D' of 'Dei' with the top and bottom serifs of this 'D' being double struck. The border bead above compensates for this downstroke by being oversized. This would be an odd occurrence for any counterfeiter, especially on top of striking perfectly die-cut, but lightweight coins in this hard metal, and having excellent milling. Only 6 of these examples are believed to exist, NF/VG,

ArgentinaBattle of Tucuman 1812 General Manuel Belgrano 48mm diameter, weight 48.91 grammes, Rosa 93. Struck in Potosi, Bolivia, Obverse: BAIO LA PROTECCION DE NUESTRA SENORA DE MERCEDES GENERALADEL EXERCITO with VICTORIA DEL 24 DE SEPTEMBRE within a wreath, Reverse: TUCUMAN SEPULCRO DE LA TIRANIA within a wreath, Edge reads ***VIVA LA RELIGION LA PATRIA Y LA UNION***. Good Fine. Cataloguer's note General Manuel Belgrano was a founding figure in the Wars of Argentinian Independence. At the battle of Tucuman, General Belgrano led the Army of the North, and defeated the Royalist Troops, led by General Pio de Tristan, who had a two-to-one advantage in numbers, thus halting the royalist advance on the North West of Argentina. This together with the Battle of Salta on 20 February 1813 allowed the Argentine troops to reaffirm the borders under their control. The cruiser ARA General Belgrano which was sunk during the Falklands War 1982 was named after him as was the earlier 1896 ARA General Belgrano, as well as Puerto Belgrano, the largest base of the Argentinian Navy. Many other small towns and departments also bear his name. These facts alone link the medal indirectly to many different historical events
