South Africa - Orange Free State pre Second Boer War (Anglo-Boer War) Post Office Post Noots (3) including 1 PoundPick S688 series A/1 04673, EF or about and very well preserved for its age this is the highest denomination for the Post Noots and the most Rarest and sought after due to its high denomination and lesser demand. To pay what is best read as G I Lest or Loots at Post Office Bloemfontein, entered hand stamp at left from Kroonstad, OVS dated 7th September 1898 and redemption stamp at right from post office Bloemfontein dated 1st October 1898. Along with other hand stamps on face from Bloemfontein and National Bank of South Africa, Johannesburg also a "BEETAALD" (PAID) stamp from the General Post Office of the Orange Free State. Uniface in olive-green and printed on watermarked paper with watermark reading Oranje Vrij Staat / Post Noot. Also, 10 Shillings Pick S685 series A/1 06190, EF with a pair of Pinholes to left upper body and faint signs of general wear, a very well preserved for its age and pleasing example. To pay what is best read as E. D. Moon or Moors at Post Office Bloemfontein this hand stamped not manuscript, entered hand stamp at left from Paris, O.V.S dated 27th February 1899 and redemption stamp at right from post office Bloemfontein dated 4th March 1899. No other hand stamps can be observed on this example. Uniface in violet and printed on watermarked paper with watermark reading Oranje Vrij Staat / Post Noot. Together with the 1 Shilling Pick S681 series A/1 02761, GVF or EF for type with very minor faint signs of general wear and a very well preserved for its age example. To pay B. G. Lennon & Co., Ltd. at Post Office Port Elizabeth, entered hand stamp at left from Bothaville, O.V.S dated 24th September 1898 and redemption stamp at right from post office Port Elizabeth dated 1st October 1898. Redemption signature with hand stamped B.G. Lennon & Co., Ltd. with title Managing Director. The reverse with a PAID hand stamp from General Post Office, Cape Town and a red post stamp for 1 Penny from Cape of Good Hopecancelled with the same hand stamp as redemption Port Elizabeth dated 1st October 1898. Uniface in green and printed on watermarked paper with watermark reading Oranje Vrij Staat / Post Noot. An interesting fact is that B. G. Lennon & Co., Ltd were a chemist and druggist business in Port Elizabeth established in 1850 by Barry Grey Lennon, an Irish chemist and nephew of the Governor of Cape of Good Hope - Sir George Grey. Their shops were to be found in most major towns in Cape Province, Natal, Orange Free State and Transvaal. In 1894 they became the first commercial pharmacy in Bulawayo and on 29th December 1898, Lennon Limited became a registered company. By 1930 the company had become the largest pharmaceutical business in the southern hemisphere and in the decades to follow Lennon Ltd was amalgamated by the South African Druggists group in an consolidation effort, then in 1968 South African Druggist joined the Johannesburg Stock Exchange and in 1999 it was acquired by Aspen in 1999 through a hostile takeover worth 2.4 million Rand which operates to this day and is the largest drug company in Africa.
Bristol Bank 5 Pounds cut-cancelled across signature dated 8th October 1807 number D420 for Miles, Vaughan, Miles, Baugh and Birch where Birch has been struck off, manuscript signatures for Entered Wm. Holmes and the other cut-cancelled (Outing 305b, Grant 468K), an Exceptionally Rare example in VF or about minor wear holes in design and expected for a note over 2 centuries old. The note uniface displaying a vignette of Bristol city Coat of Arms at centre left with text Corn Street beneath, G. Johnson fc. Bristol imprint and an embossed Revenue stamp at lower centre. Printed on watermarked paper with faintly visible partnership in an enframed design. A unique opportunity to acquire this seldom seen note with the last date before the Birch name was removed completely from partnership

Also, an alluring large-sized 50 Francs Luc Oliver Merson dated 18th July 1928 serial number block V.2602 number 932 serial number 065045932 signatures Platet & Strohl. Accompanied by a 5 Francs Violet Type 1917 Pick 72d (Fayette F3.12). 10 Francs (3) consisting of the Mineur Type 1941 Pick 99e (2) Fayette F8.17 dated 9th January 1947 last date for signature pair Rousseau & Favre-Gilly along with Fayette F8.16 dated 19 December 1946 signature pair Rousseau & Favre-Gilly. Along with the Minerve Type 1915 Pick 73d (Fayette F6.14) dated 18th December 1930. And a 20 Francs Pecheur Type 1942 Pick 100a (Fayette F13.5) dated 28th January 1943. The lot also includes the not so common French Oceania 1 Franc Pick 3 Law of 29th December 1919 serial number 52625 Series B, handwritten signatures slightly faded in blue at left for Secretary and in black at right for President, American print by Halpin Lithograph Company, San Francisco on watermarked paper.

Russell and serial number 244727, VF - GVF Minor fold Tear and an Exceptionally Rare example of one of the very LAST of the Westminster Bank issues. The note in black on light yellow underprint featuring the Bank's Coat of Arms at upper centre depicting a Crowned Triune flanked by the Royal Crowned Lion of England and Unicorn of Scotland, "Incorporated in England" text below Bank's name and promissory text with value in panel at centre. Newark Bank 5 Pounds last year dated 22nd March 1809 before failure No. 678 For Pocklington, Dickinson & Co. manuscript signed Wm. Dickinson and J. Cope (?) for entered (Outing 1488k; Grant 1998C), presentable Fine - VF slightly trimmed possibly original and multiple pinholes in body, Rare. Embossed Revenue stamp for 1 Shilling is quite clear at left obverse and 1 bankruptcy stamp on reverse with manuscript signatures. The note features the Bank's Coat of Arms and name in circular frame at left obverse and printed on watermarked paper where watermark reads "NEWARK" at centre and printed in an upside-down mirror-image fashion.
Isle of ManLloyds Bank Limited 1 PoundPick 12a (BY IM16d, IOMPM M337) last date for this signature type and these issues with the date partially stamp at issue 27th April 1949 signatures J. Greenwood & R.C. Sale serial number D18592, a Rare Post War note in VF Minor marginal tear at centre fold and Minor pencilled annotation and these always sought after and seldom seen, issued in only in 2 date types and only D prefix. The note in black on pale and pink underprint featuring an early version of Lloyd's Bank Coat of Arms with a horse and a vignette of a Viking ship at bottom centre on obverse. The reverse in blue on pink sunburst underprint featuring Isle of Man's triune at centre and Bank's head office address at bottom. Printed by W.W.
