The Finchampstead Collection is a result of a 10 year focus on the varieties in the milled farthing series and the collection has examples from most of the top collections on the market in the last few years. The research into unique varieties has involved comparison to the collection in the British Museum, the Royal Mint collection of coins and dies at Llantrisant andpaper based research at theNational Archive at Kewlooking at die, punch and matrix production, usage and scrappage .In combination with the experts at CGS it has resulted in a catalogue of farthings which includes a very high proportion of previously unrecorded varieties and currently leads the CGS Hall of Fame farthing collections . The collection is particularly strong in Victorian Copper ( with a previously unpublished range of new reversevarieties) and overall is of a very high quality with nearly half the collection being the finest known, or only recorded variety by type on the CGS database.
