World Coins and GR countermark, (1758) on Mexico City host coin KM#8.2, host coin 1758 Mo MM (KM#104.1), 26.66 grammes, and host coin both Fine and bold. A very rare issue, we note an example sold in London Coins Auction A126 9/6/2006 Lot 534 described as 'Fine with some surface marks and spots' realised £460 hammer price, this example considerably superior. Cataloguers Note: In 1758 the Jamaica assembly passed an act which provided that some of the new milled money should be made lagal tender and have a fixed value. £100,000 was proposed and to distinguish the re-valued coins, they were countermarked with the initials of the reigning monarch, George II. This succeeded in raising the value of the to 6 Shillings and Eight Pence. All of the new money, stamped or not also passed at this rate. Home authorities, on receiving copies of the local act, repealed it and the Governor of Jamaica was censured for exceeding his powers. Only £12,000 of coinage was countermarked and the project was abandoned in 1759.

Hammered Coins 1642 with tall narrow bust, declaration within wavy lines, with bands on obverse only, Spink 2724, Schneider 284, Brooker 830, North 2381 a splendid example of the iconic coin graded and encapsulated by NGC as AU53 rare and desirable thus, comes with a retail ticket price of £65,000 which being the price the current vendor paid some years ago surely makes this lot a bargain at the current estimate. The was in progress when this fabulous coin was stuck after Charles raised the Royal Standard in on 22nd 1642 he set up his court in Oxford where this spectacular piece was minted. The war against 's New Model Army dragged on until 1646 by which time Oxford was bed with Charles escaping dressed as a servant. Charles joined the Scottish Presbyterian army but nine months later was handed over to the English Parliament after a payment of £100,000 was made. Negotiations between King and Parliament began but descended into intrigue as Charles made a secret deal with the Scots who invaded in 1648 starting the Second Civil War. Once again Cromwell's New Model Army prevailed with Charles fleeing to Carisbrooke Castle on the . Further negotiations collapsed into disarray with Parliament reducing itself to the so called Rump Parliament which eventually resulted in the and extion in January 1649 of

World Banknotes The Bank of Upper Canada, York () Pick S2037 (Charlton Unlisted) dated 1st January 1861 Number 43552, a manuscript signature at lower centre right and with no observable , in a holder graded VF 20 this is a fabulous example of this Exceptionally Rare note. A collaboration of engraving by Rawdon, Wright, Hatch & Edson, New-York on plate patented 30th June 1857 and printed by the n Bank Note Company is the result of this fabulous note in black on green underprint featuring a young portrait of Queen at lower left, seated Britannia with trident and shield with the crest of Upper Canada at right, and at upper centre 2 Allegorical female figures symbolizing Upper and Lower Canada, which united in 1841, and a Lion and a , possibly representing , and 3 crests in the middle. The 3 crests as follows - lower left and right depict the arms of the Provinces of Upper and Lower Canada and the top - surmounted by a , shows the badge of The Order of the Garter, a clear reference to the monarchy. Below the whole allegory is a plinth carrying the words "VICT...TTANNIARM RE DEF"-Victoria, Queen of the Britons, Defender of the Faith. The reverse with an ornate panel and value at centre. An excellent example from one of the first Canadian Banks to issue their own banknotes following the success and the provided model of the Bank of , the very first Bank to issue any banknotes in Canada just following its establishment in 1817, and which in turn was itself following the model of the First Bank of the established in 1791 by Alexander Hamilton, the first U.S. secretary of the . Also, one of the most influential early banks which ended up in a "Bang" in 1866 after having setup close relationships with the government from the moment of its establishment. The first significant bank failure in Canadian history, with its shareholders losing all their capital, which at a time had amounted up to over three million dollars and the government losing another million dollars. Banknotes at the time represented the principal liability of a bank and were redeemable in specie, upon demand. The issue of banknotes was well received by the public and became the principal means of payment along with the fact that they helped mitigate the problems that were associated with having a vast range of foreign coins circulating with different ratings. This note is a bit of an outlier as although featuring Royal portraits and images to relate to Great Britain, the Bank chose to use dollars as their denomination in contrast to others circulating in , , , and that were typically denominated in s, s, and Pence. Online research could not find any of this denomination offered in recent times, with only a few of the lower denominations in similar grades that were so keenly sought after they ended up in the 4 figure range, and the only example that occured is currently in the of the Bank of Canada Museum and these early issues are very unlikely to be seen in much higher grades, infect the current SCWPM prices them only up to the VF grade. Such an early Rarity, especially in issued format, is certainly a 'tasty' find for any serious collector and will most certainly serve as an absolute treasure in their collection. According to an official publication of the Canadian Paper Money Society Journal Volume 50, Number 143 of December 2014 this denomination was ordered May 1861 in Sheet Numbers 34001 - 44000 and October 1861 in Sheet Numbers 44001 - 49000 and was in a total of only 60000 notes

World Banknotes - Banque Industrielle De Chine 1914-17 "Tientsin" Issue Pick S399 (S/M#C254-2b) place of issue - TIENTSIN ed in black, 2 manuscript signatures series B 1914 number 091838, the 1914 supposedly because of the issue date, however hand stamped with 25th October 1917 at centre obverse, in a holder graded Choice Fine 15 NET Ink Burn. This is an Extraorily Rare note especially in issued format due to the extremely successful note redemption rate nearing 100%, in fact its so Rare that the current SCWPM records this and the higher denominations from the series only as S and this is the ONLY issued example recorded on the PMG Population Report at the time of writing. A very attractive design as expected from Wilkinson & Co., London in blue on multicolour featuring guilloche panels with values in and English along with 2 statues of what appear to be Chinese mythological creatures at lower centre left and right on obverse, also the text at centre in a mix of English, and Chinese. The reverse in violet on multicolour with what appears to be an illustration of the popular Temple of Heaven in its methodical Confucian design. The temple originally served as a vast stage for solemn rites performed by the emperor (the literal 'Son of Heaven'), who prayed there for good harvests at winter solstice and sought divine clearance and atonement. Since 1918 this private domain has opened its gates to the public and is a poplar site where people perform daily taichi, twirl on gymnastic bars and sing ary songs. The Rarity of this note makes it a real treat for any collector and most likely to be missing from even the utmost advanced s. In contrast, online research shows none of this denomination offered with only 1 of the same type currently in the collection of the National Museum of n History and only the 10 Dollars denomination of the same type offered in recent times

Along with the Pick 101a dated Batavia, 20th January 1920 serial number JK 066587, presentable aVF to VF. Both notes feature a large portrait of Queen Wilhelmina at the centre obverse and the Netherlands Coat of Arms at centre reverse. The 1 Gulden with a classic black/grey look on obverse with a blue reverse, and the 2 1/2 Gulden with a dark olive-green obverse and a brown reverse. The lot also includes a 1/2 Gulden Pick 102 dated Batavia January 1920 serial number FZ 13922, VG this note of the second issues now printed locally by Topographische Inrichting, Batavia (Jakarta). These small denomination notes were authorised for issue due to the short supply of metal after World War I with denominations below until a series of Exclusive Rights were brought to an end in 1922, with De Javasche Bank Act, and the bank's capital was increased by 50% to 9 million gulden which resulted in the bank being prohibited from issuing notes of less than 5 gulden, and all banknote designs were to be officially published. The same metal issue also arose later during World War 2 in the 1940's and some small denominations were issued again along with the of the ese forces who also introduced their own Gulden Occupation currency.
